Finding Keywords For Your Social Media Content

12
When setting up my client's social media profiles and creating a plan of what to do, we spend some time looking at keywords for their business and topic that they will be talking about on Twitter and Facebook, as well as their blog posts.
I use Google's Keyword Tool to help find good keywords for them - Just Google "Google Keyword Tool " and you will bring up the website.
What are keywords? They are words that people use to describe your business and how you help clients.
Always think like the customer searching for you online - not as you.
You are the expert on your topic - not the customer.
You may use more technical words to describe yourself and your business, but what are the customers using? How do they search online for you? Put yourself in their shoes.
Do two things when you visit Google's Keyword tools site: 1.
Enter some keywords you feel are those most commonly used to find you online.
Again, it's more important to think like a customer than an expert on the topic.
Enter a bunch of related ones on different lines, click the button to add keyword ideas and pull up the list.
Sort them by global volume from most to least.
You will now see the top words used in online searches.
You can export this list by clicking a button at the bottom to export the list.
Save it for future reference.
THEN 2.
Enter your website name to gather a list of words from your site (The scuttlebutt on the twitter stream says that this can help you get indexed faster by Google so do not miss this step - just in case).
This will gather a list of keywords found on your website.
Again export if to a file and save.
Take the two lists together and work with them.
Check them against your website's analytics on what keywords are bringing people in from search engines.
Compare the two lists from Google's keyword tool and your website analytics list of top keywords used to reach your website in online searches and determine good key words for you, your business and your social media content.
Now you are ready to add a few of these words in your content.
One place people add their keywords as well is in their Twitter and Linked In BIOs as well as their Facebook page name.
The Facebook page does get indexed by Search Engines so adding a keyword here can be very helpful to your online visibility.
Example of a Good Facebook Page Name - TimeonTaskVA - Social Media Virtual Assistant It includes my company name as well as some keywords that describe my business.
You will note that my actual Facebook Page does not have our keywords in our Facebook page's name, it is simply Time on Task VA Services.
It was opened them fairly early on before a lot was known and understood about pages and I missed out on this tactic.
Make sure you do not.
Why have I not been changed it? With so many people connected to this page, starting over is not something I chose to do.
You cannot transfer fans/ or people who like your page - you must ask that they re-join and in many cases they may not.
Keep your keywords from your list in mind when creating any content on your social media channels - Twitter, Facebook Page, Linked In, YouTube Video descriptions and keywords as well.
- all of this will help you get found online - more visibility on the web.
Check them often as well and make changes as appropriate.
One thing that Social Media does for everyone is keep you on your toes!
