How To Make Home-Made Nut Milk

15
Home-made nut milks are a great substitute for other milks that can be purchased at the grocery store.
It is easy to make the nut milk, and the best part about it is that it is raw and fresh, and does not contain any food additives, preservatives or any other harmful ingredient.
All you need to make the milk is your favorite nuts or seeds, fresh water, a blender and a nut milk bag or a paint strainer.
A paint strainer works just as well and is much cheaper to purchase.
To Make The Nut Milk To make home-made nut milk, simply soak about 1 cup of nuts or seeds in clean water overnight.
This helps to release the enzymes, which in turn produces a more nutrient rich milk.
After soaking the nuts for about 6 to 8 hours, simply drain and rinse before putting them into a blender.
Once in a blender, add in about 3 to 4 (or less) cups of water and blend until it is well blended.
The amount of water you need depends on the desired thickness of the milk.
If you want to use the milk for making yogurt, then you want a thick milk and would only add in about 2 parts water to 1 part nuts.
For a milk to be used in a smoothie or milkshake you can easily add more water.
After the mixture is well blended, a nut milk bag can be used to separate the milk from the pulp.
This type of bag can be purchased online, or at a raw health food store.
A cheese cloth and a sieve also works well to separate the pulp from the milk.
Simply put the sieve over a container and line it with a cheese cloth.
Then pour the mixture through and squeeze the remainder of milk out.
The only thing with using cheese cloth is that it can get a bit pricey if you make a lot of milk.
Once drained, it can be sweetened with natural sweeteners, such as honey, agave nectar or stevia, for a delicious drink.
Other flavors can be added in as well, including cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, cloves, maca, raw cacao and fresh fruits.
I find that it goes extremely good in a banana smoothie or milkshake, but you can try it with your favorite fruit as well.
It is also good when used in a cereal or in soups.
The recipe for nut milk is easily doubled or tripled; just remember to add 3 to 4 parts water to 1 cup nuts or seeds, and less water if you are making yogurt.
What To Do With The Pulp The pulp can be used in other foods such as smoothies, cookies cakes and raw breads.
It goes really good with cacao and coconut in almond pulp chocolate balls.
The pulp of some nuts and seeds is also quite moisturizing, and can be used as a moisturizing body scrub when mixed in with other ingredients, such as sea salt or baking soda.
Simply use equal parts in the ingredients and add water until you have reached a desired consistency.
