Ants - How to Get Rid of Ants!

32
I don't know about you, but I can't stand ants.
Honestly they are my worst! If I walk into the kitchen and see a string of ants over the counter top or on the wall I just freak out.
But what is it about ants that make me, us go so crazy? Why do we hate them so much? Firstly I think that the mere thought of a small crawling ant in my food is enough to make me nauseous.
How about you? Honestly I don't really know why I hate them so much, but I do know that they are my worst.
Lets take a closer look at what ants are.
Ants are actually very hard working insects that move around in colonies.
Each member of these colonies has a specific job to do and they go out and do it.
Ants, although small, can carry many times their body weight.
Quite amazing! With over 12,000 species of ants, most are not harmful, however there are the fire ants that do bite and if they do, you will find your skin being rather red, inflamed and itchy.
You may wonder how do ants communicate? Well they produce a chemical called pheromones which allows them to send and interpret messages to each other.
In addition they have a highly sensitive sense of smell which is made functional through their antennas.
Now as fascinating as all this is, I'm sure you would still like to know how to get rid of them.
Ants are not easy to get rid of and if you have children in the house then you probably do not want to use chemicals.
As mentioned above, ants have a keen sense of smell and hence detest the smell of cinnamon.
Just sprinkle some cinnamon in the problematic areas and this should help.
Another method is to take a piece of chalk and draw a line with it.
The ants will not cross that line and will stay outdoors.
Getting rid of colonies calls for throwing boiling hot water on them.
I know a little cruel, but it works.
This will have to be repeated a few times in order to be fully effective.
