What to Wear for a Winter Photo Shoot

Traditional cold-weather garb can make for great outdoors winter photos. Stick with scarves, beanie hats, long coats, sweaters, gloves and the like. Blacks, whites, grays and shades of brown look great for these kind of shots, and if you decide to put in color, keep it minimal and light-toned. Matte fabrics tend to shoot better than glossy in this style. - Contrasting formal clothes with harsh winter landscapes will create great photos.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
Formal clothes look spectacular contrasted against an outdoor winter setting, especially when there is snow, wind or ice around. Business formal is stunning on men, especially if including a suit, tie and briefcase. Turn the formal knob all the way up and do a shoot with tuxedos and fancy dresses outdoors in the winter. Spice things up a bit with some old-school touches, such as vests, bowler hats, and ballroom gowns can deepen the narrative to your shoot. - The energy and color of costume pieces work spectacularly with winter landscapes.Jupiterimages/Goodshoot/Getty Images
For an unexpected look, try colorful clothing items, such as bright leggings or sun dresses for girls or street fashion for men. Setting a swimsuit, intimates or nearly nude shoot in the snow can create wonderful contrast, tension and energy. Use online auction sites or thrift stores to find masks and costumes or parts of costumes, and use them on their own or mixed with more traditional or formal clothing to lend the power of narrative to your shoot and create striking images.
