How to Prevent German Roaches in Kitchens
- 1). Maintain a clean and dry kitchen. Identify leaks in pipes and fix them immediately. Avoid leaving your dishes in the sink unwashed. Wash and dry them as soon as you finished eating and remove and dispose of any food particles left in the sink. Clean the kitchen regularly, especially areas where foods are stored. If you see food crumbs in the kitchen, clean them immediately to avoid attracting German roaches.
- 2). Buy a dehumidifier. Roaches like warm moist places. A dehumidifier will reduce the amount of moisture in the air in your kitchen. These can be purchased for about $200 as of 2011.
- 3). Use a spray pesticide. Find the problem areas of your kitchen and spray pesticide around them to kill the existing roaches. Remove your dishes and food out of the area before starting this process. Once the process is complete, air the room for a day and remove any dead roaches, which may contain eggs.
- 4). Place roach motels in problem areas. These traps can help maintain a roach-free environment once you have killed the bulk of roaches. Put them in dark places where roaches might be hiding, such as behind the refrigerator or deep in a cabinet. This is preferential to spraying poison that can be toxic to you, your pets, and your children. These can be purchased for about $3.00 as of 2011.
