Top 10 Ways to Improve Your Business" Twitter Account

26
1.
Follow, follow, follow
When you are setting about creating a successful Twitter account, it is no use being precious about the number of people you are following.
Well-established tweeters (and celebrities) can be picky about who they want to follow, but you should not fall into this trap.
If you follow people they will be far more inclined to follow you back, and this is central to building up a large following.
2.
Bring in the professionals
It doesn't have to be Voz Media (although we would be delighted to help you, of course), but getting an external company to tweet on your behalf can be beneficial.
For a relatively small outlay you can ensure that your Twitter account is regularly updated and, if you are unhappy with the output, you know exactly who to blame.
Make sure you spend time making your social media company aware of your brand values and precisely what you want to convey through your tweets.
3.
Be personal
Corporate accounts are sometimes a necessity, but as a general rule to add some personality to your tweets.
Twitter is no different to traditional business networking in that a bit of charisma can go a long way.
Make sure your tweets stand out from the crowd and that your followers feel like they are getting to know you.
4.
Don't be too personal
Contradictory? Perhaps, but while you are adding personality to your tweets make sure that its the positive aspects of your personality that your clients get to see.
Are you really going to get that big contract when the whole world knows most of your Monday mornings are written off with that hangover? It might seem blindingly obvious, but we have seen it happen.
5.
Keep a close eye on trending topics
It is probably not a great idea to shoehorn yourself into conversation on all manner of random topics (after all, how many Justin Bieber fans can your business really cater for?!), but watch trending topics and hash-tags carefully to make sure you don't miss the boat if something of interest does crop up.
6.
Scratch some backs
If you think maintaining your Twitter account is a thankless task then you can rest assured that thousands of other people are thinking exactly the same thing at any given time.
Give someone a break with a #FollowFriday or a retweet.
You will quite often find the favour will be reciprocated.
7.
Make sure your followers know exactly what service they are getting
Is your Twitter account monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week? If not, then it might be worth considering the implications of somebody contacting you with an urgent request only to find they don't get a reply for several days.
If you business is fast-paced but your Twitter management isn't, just add a line to your bio giving an alternative method of contact for urgent enquiries.
8.
Make your events matter
Are you hosting a conference? Is your company welcoming visitors from another country? Make a big deal about it.
Come up with a snappy hash-tag for the event and encourage all participants to tweet what they are up to.
Not only will this help to promote your Twitter account and your business, it will also provide some instant feedback on your event.
9.
Always reply to @You and DMs
Again, don't get yourself confused with a celebrity tweeter.
If someone has taken the time to contact you, it is vital that you reply.
Don't miss the opportunity to direct traffic to your website, engage in conversation with a potential client or get a key message across.
Even if the initial comment is negative, there is no reason why you can't put a positive spin on the situation or put any fires out immediately.
A professional PR or communications company will either handle this for you or offer advice on how to deal with a tricky tweeter.
10.
Keep it regular
This links in nicely with number 7.
Everybody likes their comfort zone and likes to know what too expect.
There is no use bombarding your followers with 20 tweets in a day and then nothing for two weeks.
Work out a level of commitment that you can afford to make Twitter and then think about how you can make best use of that time to keep your followers regularly informed.
