Reliability of Wireless Systems
- The best way to ensure the reliability of a wireless system is to connect as close to the network base as possible. If the information doesn't have far to travel, the network will work much more efficiently than if the data must travel long distances, or transmit around or through obstacles.
- The strength of a computer's wireless antenna will also play a role in the quality of a connection. Most newer computers come with strong antennae that can pick up a signal from far away. External connection devices, like those that plug into USB ports, are also good at securing connections from a distance.
- Occasionally, a computer's operating system can make connecting via a wireless network a hassle. The most common glitch occurs in Windows XP, when the system will recognize a wireless network but refuse access to it. This can force users to download patches from Microsoft or re-install drivers or other software.
