How to Get Feathery Hair
- 1). Get the right haircut. Ask your stylist for a layered shag starting with ear-level layers. You can get this style if you have shoulder-length hair, but the longer the better if you want "big" hair that gets noticed.
- 2). Begin with clean, wet hair. Towel-dry your hair so it is damp and apply a dab of mousse for volume. Detangle your hair with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers.
- 3). Separate each layer with clips so you are only working with one layer at a time.
- 4). Hold a round-barrel brush and gather a hair layer, flipping the hair out. Blow dry each layer individually with a brush-then-flip motion. Concentrate on holding the ends of the layer under the blow dryer to secure the look. Do this for each hair layer.
- 5). Arrange the feathery layers when you're finished blow drying. Use a heated curling iron to define the layers if your hair didn't take the curl well, if desired. Finish by defining the feathered layers with a light pomade. Liberally spray your hair with maximum-hold hairspray.
- 6). Get "big" hair by back-combing. Bend over and flip your head upside down. Take small sections of hair around your crown and use a down-then-up teasing motion with a fine-tooth comb. Flip your head back and add another layer of hairspray.
