How to Plant a Meyer Lemon Tree

14
    • 1). Plant your Meyer lemon seedling in full sun in an area with moist, well drained soil. Plant it in early spring, after the last frost or when the temperature reaches a steady 75 to 80 degrees.

    • 2). Dig a hole about 6 inches deeper and wider than your tree's root ball. Line the hole with mature compost and water it gently. Mix equal parts compost and sand with the soil from the hole. The compost adds nutrients while the sand helps water drain through instead of sitting on the roots.

    • 3). Lay your seedling on its side and gently pull on the trunk, rotating the tree at the same time until it pops free of its pot. Gently untangle the roots with your fingers so that they spread out into the soil rather than coiling around the root ball.

    • 4). Set the tree into the hole, making sure the trunk is perfectly vertical. Scoop your soil mixture around the root ball, covering the roots completely but keeping soil from building up around the trunk. Press down lightly.

    • 5). Spread some citrus tree food around the base of the tree and water it until the soil is moist but not squishy. Water your seedling this way every three days, adding citrus tree food every third time you water.
