How to Crab With a Pole
- 1). Cut off a length of fishing line that is approximately 10 feet, and put cold water in your pail. Use a longer piece of fishing line if you are crabbing off of a tall pier -- enough to touch the bottom of the water. Tie your fishing line to a pole.
- 2). Squeeze a sinker weight onto one end of the fishing line using pliers. Tie a thawed turkey or chicken neck to the line above the sinker.
- 3). Tie the other end of the fishing line to your pole. Hole the pole and lower the turkey neck into the water. Crabs stay close to shore in dark water and further out in clear water.
- 4). Hold the turkey neck in the water until you feel nibbling on the end of the line. Pull the line out of the water gently and slowly and take the crab off with your tongs. Place the crab into the cold water in your pail.
- 5). Remove the crabs from the pail with tongs when you are ready to boil them for eating.
