Korea: MacArthur war with Truman

50
The Korean War was fought between 1950 and 1953. This war unlike the Second World War or the Vietnam War is referred as the forgotten war in America, because it did not capture the public attention as the later wars. The World War II had captured the nation's attentions due to its high levels of stakes involved as was the Vietnam War which had very high levels of casualties. Nevertheless the Korea war had it stakes high with levels of casualties rising up to more than 50,000 and more injuries as compared to the Vietnam War. Although highly forgotten the Korea veterans and soldiers who sacrificed their lives were honored in 1995 through a memorial at the Washington mall next to the memorial created for the Vietnam veterans. The Korea war took place during Harry Truman presidency while General Douglas MacArthur was the leader of the army in Korea.

MacArthur was well known in his participation in the Korea war. His military service had started much earlier on with inspirations from his fathers military career. He had joined the army as a son  of a well know military officer who had played part in the civil war, wars in Philippines and the Spanish American wars; Arthur MacArthur II. MacArthur was trained in west port military academy and emerged the best in his class by 1903. His first mission was in leading the troops into combat in the First World War. From the war he was honored with bravely, courage and profound leadership. MacArthur worked in various positions in the United States military as he was once the superintendent of the west port military academy, army chief of staff, and before retiring he was the military adviser to the new Philippine commonwealth. After retiring in 1937 he was recalled to active duty after the Pearl Harbor attack by the Japanese in1941 and became the commander of the American troops in the southern pacific. He defeated the Japanese quest of controlling the Asia pacific and went on to preside over the surrender and military occupation of Japan.

The tensions in Asia did not simmer with the end of the war but continued.  Northern Korea forces started the first armed conflict with their southern Korea's in 1950. The northern part of the Korea had been placed under the Soviet Union. Their invasion of the United States southern controlled Korea, America and its allies, fearing the influence of communism to the southerners decided to defend the South Korea. General MacArthur as the commander of the American troops managed to stage a daring maneuver that helped to save the southern Korea troops who had been pushed very far to the south. MacArthur and his troops pushed the northern Korea troops almost to the china borders and this prompted the Chinese to respond with counter attack, supporting the northern Korea. With a stale mate at the parallel where the two Korea's were divided, MacArthur wanted to extend his attack into the Chinese territory.

The united states of America Harry Truman as the chief commander, could not agreed with MacArthur propositions of carrying out attacks into Chinese territory.  This angered MacArthur to a point of making his disagreement with his commander in chief a public affair. His disagreement with Truman resulted with his dismissal from the command of the Korea war and the military due to insubordination in 1951. This made Trumann political popularity to rise considerably while MacArthur was received back in America to a hero's welcome. Historians are of the position that it was wrong for MacArthur to have challenged Truman publicly over the decision to invade Chinese territory; these left Truman with no option but to dismiss him from service.
