Math Scholarships in Georgia
- The mathematics department at the University of West Georgia offers multiple scholarship opportunities for currently enrolled students. As of 2011, juniors or seniors may apply for the Charity Pittman Scholarship, an $800 award for students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential and a record of service. Seniors involved in student government or choir may apply for the $500 David Cooley Scholarship award. Outstanding juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career in mathematics may apply for the Marion Crider Award, which provides $5,200 in education funding to selected students.
- Undergraduate math majors enrolled at Georgia Southern University may apply for the SMART Scholarship. As of 2011, this program provides $10,000 in education funding for up to two years of study for students who wish to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at the university. Awards are granted during the student's senior year of undergraduate study and the first year of the graduate program. As a condition of receiving the scholarship, students must agree to work as a high school teacher in the southeast region of Georgia for a minimum of four years after completing their teacher certification.
- Students attending Kennessaw State University of the Georgia Institute of Technology may apply for the Robert Noyce Scholars Program, designed to encourage math and science majors to pursue careers in education. As of 2011, the program awards qualifying students a $10,000 scholarship during their senior years. Students are also eligible to receive a second year of funding if they enroll in the 15-month master of arts in teaching program at Kennessaw State. Upon receiving their teaching certification, recipients must agree to work for a period of no less than two years as teachers in a Georgia high school.
- The ASSETS Scholarship Program is open to students enrolled or planning to enroll at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, located in Tifton, Georgia. To qualify for a scholarship, you must demonstrate high academic achievement and a career interest in mathematics or a related field. All students must be U.S. citizens with a demonstrated financial need, and special consideration is given to students from underrepresented minority or ethnic backgrounds. To remain eligible for the award, students must major in mathematics or a related field, maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA), attend math and science seminars and participate in undergraduate research at the University of Georgia.
