How to Prune Spreading Junipers
- 1). Identify the dominant branches. These are the branches that have grown larger than the others, and stick out from the bush.
- 2). Use the pruning shears to cut the dominant branches at a downward angle. This makes it less obvious that the bush has just been pruned, since the cut is facing the ground. Also cut out any dead or diseased branches.
- 3). Shape the bush by shortening the length of the branches toward the bottom. Make sure to prune it so that it looks full and healthy from the front. If you had to remove a lot of dead branches, try to leave more foliage on the surrounding branches to fill it in.
