How to Knit With Fishing Line
- 1). Choose the weight of fishing line you prefer. Select very fine fishing line for beaded jewelry, medium weight line for delicate beaded housewares and heavier fishing line for practical dish scrubbers.
- 2). Select a simple shape when knitting with fishing line. Plan to work rectangles or squares, at least until you have a good idea of how increases and decreases will work when you knit with fishing line.
- 3). Thread beads onto the fishing line if you will be using them. Allow plenty of extra beads to avoid running out.
- 4). Work with a larger needle than you would use for a similar weight yarn. Try a size 4 to size 6 needle for most fishing line. Use a backward loop cast on to start your project.
- 5). Knit every row. Look closely and you will see that the stitch definition in fishing line is quite poor, so a garter stitch is the easiest choice for this difficult material. Move beads up along the line and into place to work into the stitches as desired.
- 6). Use a crochet hook to create a neat slip-stitch bind off when knitting with fishing line.
- 7). Thread fishing line onto a tapestry needle to seam or finish your knitting as desired.
