Measuring the Pool

• 1). Note the shape of your pool, whether it is rectangular, square, round or oblong. Use the tape measure to measure from the top of the inside of the rail on one side to the top of the inside of the rail on the opposite side. Measure the longest sides and the shortest sides, keeping in mind that for round and square pools, the measurements should be the same. Record the measurements carefully.
  
  
• 2). Note whether you have an overlap pool liner or a beaded liner, keeping in mind that an overlap pool liner comes up underneath the railing and a beaded liner fits into a bead receiver located below the top rails of your pool. Measure the depth of your pool from the bottom of the top rail for an overlap liner and from the bead receiver for a beaded liner.
  
  
• 3). Make sure that the water in your pool is clear. Use the pool skimmer pole for assistance in measuring the depth of the pool. Slip the string with the plumb bob on the end of it through the hole in the skimmer pole. Place the pole on the ground, over the shallow end of the pool, and let the plumb bob pull the string into the water until the bob hits the bottom of the pool. Measure the bottom of the plumb bob to the string attached to the bottom of the pole. Record the measurement.
  
  
• 4). Repeat the procedure at the deepest part of your pool.
  
  

Installing Your Liner

• 1). Empty the water out of your pool shortly before you begin the installation. Unpack and unfold your new liner, being careful not to use any sharp instruments in the unpacking process. Check the liner for holes or tears. Set the new liner, shiny side down, in the sun for several hours to warm up. Remove the old liner. Skip Steps 2 and 4 for a beaded liner.
  
  
• 2). Remove the top rails and coping strips on your Dough boy pool. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the top connectors. Remove the screws underneath. Take off the top rails, and lay them out so they can be replaced in the same location. Replace any broken coping strips with new ones.
  
  
• 3). Look at the sides of your Doughboy pool. Cover any rusted spots that may poke through your new liner with duct tape or spray foam. Smooth out the sand as necessary with a trowel or rake, removing any vegetation that has begun to grow underneath.
  
  
• 4). Stretch the new liner. Start with the center of the liner about one foot above the ground with two feet of liner down the outside of the pool wall. Center the curved seam so it will fit around the outside edges of the pool. Begin to fill the pool with water, using the weight of the water to stretch the liner. Feed the liner into the pool as the tension increases on the liner, stretching it into place. Replace the plastic coping and top rails once the pool liner is touching the ground all the way around.
  
  
• 5). Skip this step if you have an overlap liner. Locate the bead receiver right below the top rails on your Doughboy pool. Fasten the beaded liner into the pool receiver. Straighten the liner and fill the liner with about nine inches of water to stretch it. Push the edges up against the side of the pool. Continue to straighten the liner as you fill the pool, allowing the water to smooth any wrinkles out.
  
  
• 6). Completely fill the pool with water. Connect the filtration equipment.
