How to Minimize the File Size of JPEG Images

  • 1). Open Microsoft Paint. Click "Start," then type "Paint" in the search box and press "Enter."

  • 2). Drag a JPEG image into the drawing area or click the blue "Paint" button," click "Open," then navigate to the location of your saved JPEG and double-click it.

  • 3). Click "Resize." Check "Maintain Aspect Ratio" to maintain the ratio between horizontal and vertical size.

  • 4). Click "Percentage" to decrease the size by a percentage of the original size or click "Pixels" to resize the image to a specific size. Enter the horizontal value of the new image size in the "Horizontal" text box, in percentage or pixels. For example, if you want to reduce the picture by 50 percent, type "50" in the text box. If you want the image to be 800 pixels wide, type "800" in the text box.

  • 5). Click "OK." Click the "Paint" button and click "Save As." Click "JPEG (*.jpg;*.jpeg;*.jp3;*.jfif)" in the "Save As Type" drop-down menu and enter a file name for the image. Click "Save."
