How to Make Sand Paper
- 1). Cover a flat work surface with newspaper. Place the 80-pound paper on the center of the newspaper.
- 2). Squeeze and apply a liberal layer of hide glue over the surface of the paper. Brush the hide glue over the surface with a foam brush. Allow the hide glue to dry to the consistency of gel. This will take between three and 15 minutes, depending on the warmth of the room.
- 3). Sprinkle a liberal amount of silicon carbide grit over the surface of the gel. Allow the gel to harden for one hour.
- 4). Pick up the homemade sandpaper at one corner. Gently tap the paper on the surface of the newspaper. Place the homemade sandpaper in a dry, flat location. Pour any unused silicon carbide grit remaining on the newspaper back in its original container.
