How To Interview Well For A Security Guard Job

18
The security guard profession is a growing field and to land a position one first needs to acquire a guard card. Every state has different requirements; for California, for instance, you need to be eighteen years old, pass a criminal background check and pass a test which is fairly simple to do. They provide study guides. Once you are ready to apply for an actual job, consider these helpful tips that are sure to increase your chances of getting employed. First of all, dress well. If you are a woman wear something formal, but conservative. Don't be too girlie because, after all, it is the security profession. Men should also dress conservatively, and wear suites. Make sure you shoes are clean; wear a tie. Be polite to everyone you run into. You have no idea who you are speaking to; it could be the owner or someone that has pull at the company. Shake hands. Look your interviewer in the eye. Bring a resume, and, if you don't have one, it's time to create one. When being interviewed, answer only the questions. Speak clearly and concisely. Every company has their own set of requirements as to what they are looking for. Most clients like responsible, respectful guards so do your best to show that side of yourself. Certain locations require different skills. If you are a Los Angeles security guard
working on a film set that requires different knowledge than working at a small, southern town for a graduation ceremony. Ask about the positions but let the interviewer guide the conversation. If you answer their questions well, dress well, be as respectful as possible, there's a good chance you will impress them. Even if you don't get hired, follow-up. Employers like that. They appreciate people who make an effort. Be persistent, and you are half way there.
