Type 2 Diabetes - Why You Struggle to Eat Healthily and How You Can Master It

33
A recent Pew survey discovered approximately six in every ten Americans felt they ate more than they should.
Moreover the study discovered the majority of Americans in the survey reported they specifically would overeat on junk foods.
Chronic obesity is a problem in America as well as many European countries.
No matter how hard some people try to change their diet to get a handle on their Type 2 diabetes, they often struggle.
Reasons for this "struggle" include...
1.
Convenience.
Based on the Pew Research telephone survey, it was discovered most people felt convenience was the main reason for overeating.
The easier food is to get ahold of, the easier it is to eat more.
2.
Visual Cues.
Research studies have found foods visible as we walk past them, in say ice-cream shops, cakes shops, and take away, are far more difficult to resist and trigger overeating easily.
Seeing food makes us want to then eat food.
And neurochemically speaking, the anticipation of food sets off secretions adding to our craving and overeating.
For some this sensation is just too hard to ignore.
3.
Social and Cultural Prompts.
There are certain socially contagious behaviours, such as taking vitamins and having a vaccine.
But socially we can be influenced even more when it comes to how much we eat and drink.
According to Professors Fowler and Christakis from the survey, having a friend who is gaining weight makes you 57% more likely to do so yourself.
They believe consciously or unconsciously, most people are using what others eat, and the amount, as a gauge for what they should be eating portion wise.
Take Back Control of Your Eating.
Instead of relying on external factors to tell you when you're hungry, it is time to take back control and use your body as a guide as we were designed to do.
The time has come to stop giving the power over to the food companies and succumbing to their fantastic marketing and creative food window displays.
Listen to your body and let this be the guide as to when you are hungry and should be eating.
Another issue that can trigger overeating is the fact we have become conditioned to feeling when we make a meal, it must be glamorous and decadent in many ways.
This is a result of the supermarkets making many meals that are quite complicated to make at home.
They make them easily and effortlessly in their factory due to the high amount of staff they employ.
This is the main reason they can create the meals they do, then they encourage you to buy them in the supermarket by encasing them in delicious looking packaging.
So start to break free and get used to simple meals as it is harder to overeat on simple foods compared to beautifully packaged foods high in sugar, salt and/or fat.
