If you watched any television at all in the 1980s, you know Candace Cameron Bure.

The actress played D.J. on the ridiculously popular ABC sit-com, Full House. Cameron Bure is set to start in the new Netflix reboot of the series, as well, Fuller House.

And in September 2015, Cameron Bure debuted as the newest co-host of ABC’s early morning talk show, The View.

Early life and career

Born in Panorama City, Los Angeles, in 1976, Cameron Bure soon become one of four children born to Robert and Barbara Cameron.

One of those siblings is actor Kirk Cameron, best known for his role on ABC’s Growing Pains.

Kirk was, in small part, responsible for Cameron Bure’s decision to pursue acting at a young age. Her brother was making waves in Growing Pains, so she gave it a try.

It wasn’t long before she was taking roles in local and national commercials and, eventually, guest roles on popular prime time TV shows, including Who’s the Boss? and Punky Brewster. She even had a guest starring role on her brother’s sit-com.

Then, in 1987, she landed the role of a lifetime. Cameron Bure took the part of Donna Jo “D.J.” Tanner on the ABC’s sit-com, Full House. The very family friendly comedy followed the adventures of a widowed father, his three daughter, their wannabe rock star uncle and their father’s crazy friend. The show ran for eight seasons.

While on Full House, Cameron Bure’s popularity among pre-teen viewers was huge. It led to starring roles in a number of made-for-TV movies and co-hosting duties on Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards, both in 1990 and 1994.

Taking a break from acting

Once Full House ended, and after the birth of her first child, Cameron Bure decided to take a break from her entertainment career to concentrate on her family. She wasn’t completely gone from audiences, occasionally appearing in popular retrospectives like I Love the ‘80s.

Cameron Bure married NHL hockey player Valeri Bure in 1996, a year after Full House ended. They have three children. She also became a Christian during this time and is open about her faith and how it has helped her in various ways throughout her life.

Returning to TV

As her kids grew older, Cameron Bure slowly dipped her toes back into the entertainment world. She guest starred on the Disney sit-com That’s So Raven, with View co-star Raven Symone. She also starred in a couple of made-for-TV movies.

Then, in 2009, Cameron Bure took the role of Summer Van Horne on the ABC Family series Make It or Break It. The teen gymnastics drama ended in 2012.

Her star shined brighter when she agreed to compete on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, ultimately coming in third place.

Then, the really big news.

‘Fuller House’ and ‘The View’

In 2015, Cameron Bure and former Full House co-stars Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber made waves when Netflix announced it was reviving Full House as Fuller House, a spin-off of the original that will follow Cameron Bure’s D.J. in a similar situation as her father. Nearly all of the original cast plans to make guest appearances on the show.

Around the time filming began on Fuller House, Cameron Bure landed a co-host gig on The View, joining new and returning hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Raven Symone, Michelle Collins and Paula Faris.
