Remember the good old days when butter was more popular than margarine? It seems very long ago, doesn't it? I fondly remember the taste of butter spread over hot toast with a lashing of apricot jam.
It was a sweet temptation I used to enjoy.
These days the price of butter has rocketed while the price of margarine has remained relatively low.
Do you want to guess which sells more? It's obvious that margarine would win simply because it's cheaper than butter, and it is designed to taste and look like butter.
Did you know that the original color of margarine is white, or more accurately off- white? They actually have to add coloring to give it the appearance of butter.
Would you like to know something scary? What is the difference between margarine and plastic? The answer is one molecule.
Can you imagine that margarine and plastic are so similar that the only difference is one molecule? And we eat this stuff?! It is a shocking thought to know that what we thought was a safe product, is actually a plastic like substance.
Do we really know how margarine interacts with our bodies? If we ate plastic bags, how would we digest them? Do our bodies react the same way to margarine as they would to other plastic substances? Let us consider the nutritional value.
How many nutrients are contained in margarine? I came across some information which alleged that margarine was initially developed to fatten up turkeys.
However, instead of achieving its goal, the turkeys died.
After this occurred, it was decided to add coloring and to sell it as a substitute for butter.
Is this a true story? Well, I have not yet seen confirmation of this but if it were, I would imagine that you would not want to ingest this substance any more.
Would you like to know the real truth about margarine? Is there a real danger in consuming this product or do you still believe that it compares favorably with butter? Are you still willing to accept that margarine is a natural substance that holds a lot of benefits for long-term health? Are you prepared to stake your life on the benefits of margarine? Then perhaps you are just in time for a wake-up call.
There are many health books available on the subject of margarine.
Some of them advocate the use of margarine, especially brands that have been fortified with vitamins and Omega Oils.
Other books instead will discourage the use of margarine because it is a synthetic substance and can be dangerous to the health.
It can be confusing to distinguish who is right and who is wrong.
The best position to take would be one of logic.
Look for books that had been written by qualified scientists and physicians because they have probably spent years studying the effects of margarine and other synthetic substances and how they interact with the body.
Remember, natural is always better.
However, at the end of the day, you must decide how much you are willing to risk.
