Instructions for Installing a Cold Air Intake for a 2008 Scion TC

    • 1). Loosen the lug nuts on the left front wheel. Jack up the car with a floor jack and lower it onto a jack stand. Finish removing the lug nuts and the wheel.

    • 2). Open the hood. Remove the two bolts that hold the engine cover in place, using a socket and a ratchet. Remove the cover.

    • 3). Pull the hose off the clips that are part of the intake, located just in front of the windshield. Pull the PCV hose off the intake.

    • 4). Unplug the wiring harness that plugs into the mass air flow (MAF) sensor on the stock air intake. The intake is located on the driver's side of the engine bay.

    • 5). Remove the two screws that hold the MAF sensor in place. Disconnect the other sensor from the MAF. Remove the small screw that holds the MAF sensor to the mounting bracket. Pull the MAF off and set it aside.

    • 6). Open the latches that hold the air filter cover to the air box. Pull the intake assembly off the engine. Squeeze the hose clamp that holds the end of the intake to the throttle body on the engine to disconnect it.

    • 7). Remove the three bolts that hold the bottom of the air box to the engine bay. Remove the bottom of the air box. Remove the two Phillips screws that hold the lower intake section to the inside of the fender. It may help to remove the fuse box cover.

    • 8). Remove the screws at the front section of the plastic wheel well liner, on the driver's side. Pull the liner back so you can access the area behind the liner. Remove the 10-mm headlight ground bolt, located in the wheel well, using a socket and ratchet.

    • 9). Install the air intake mounts where the stock lower intake section was installed. Install the adapter on the engine's throttle body with the supplied hose clamp.

      Slide the end of the intake tubing into the hole in the engine bay, and the opposite end onto the adapter that was installed on the throttle body. Fasten the intake to the mounts that were installed.

      Reinstall the PCV hose onto the new intake. Reinstall the sensor back onto the MAF. Fasten the MAF back onto the new intake with the screws. Plug the wiring harness back into the MAF.

      Install the mounting bolt in the fender well for the intake. Install the lower end of the intake with the supplied rubber adapter and hose clamps. Install the cone filter on the end of the intake. Ensure that the headlight ground wire is reinstalled where the intake mounting bolt was installed.

      Reinstall the fender liner. Reinstall the wheel and the lug nuts. Lower the car to the ground. Recheck all hose clamps and bolts for tightness.
