A Personal Experience With a Senior Caregiver Agency
I consider myself quite lucky.
I grew up in a great neighborhood, I got a good education, I was able to eat ice-cream, watch cartoons, play catch.
My childhood was an American classic.
I was also lucky enough to be alive and cognizant of not one but two of my great grandmothers.
They were wonderful people, full of stories, wisdom, and just the right amount of silliness.
Both of them died as they closed in on the age of ninety and both remained fairly active into their early eighties.
Everybody in my family was close with them, there were a lot of us.
So when things took turns for the worse with both of them there was an incredible support system in place to take care of them.
I remember how sad we all were to have to tell my Mom's father's mother she could no longer drive.
She had taken me and my cousin to the bank with her and on an incredibly hot day left us in the car with closed windows, nothing terrible happened other than sweating but it was a big red flag.
Luckily we could handle her.
However it was not all that simple.
When at the same time my Mom's mother's mother started to fall apart the family was being pulled at two very demanding ends and it started to become clear that some sort of senior care to help out.
It was hard to admit that the situation was now beyond our control.
Senior care placement became an obsession and a hard reoccurring conversation at family events.
No one was quite clear on how to take care of the situation and in this age before the internet it was impossible to research easily and discover a child care agency that also worked in senior care.
Eventually we did find a care giver agency.
They found a senior care giver who was perfect for both of my great grandmothers.
They were helpful and loving with both them and our extended slightly shaken family.
They became close friends and are still on the invite list to most birthdays and holidays.
We could not have asked for a greater blessing than these two magnificent senior caregivers thanks to a household staffing agency.
I cherish my memories with both of these spectacular women who survived for nearly a century.
It is easier to deal with the loss knowing that their later years were rich and active and that they had great caregivers making sure they were safe and comfortable.
