Samarvir Sahi Golf final: Joshi lifts the Trophy

CHANDIGARH: Khalin Joshi of Bangalore clinched the Samarvir Sahi Amateur Golf Trophy emerging a clear winner over his more experienced state-mate Chikkarangappa, carding a one under 71 for a four-day tally of six under 278, at the Chandigarh Golf Club here on Friday.

Joshi, who shot the tournament's best card of five under 66 in the third round, finished four shots ahead of Chikka's two under 282. The winner played a steady round sinking birdies on the first and seventh to be two under 34 at the turn. He conceded a bogey on the 10th and managed an even par on the remaining holes for a one over back nine. Chikka fared badly conceding three bogeys against a lone birdie to be two over par 38 at the turn. He came back with a birdiein a blemish free one under 34 back nine carding a one over 72 score.

All-India Matchplay final winner Angad Cheema of Chandigarh reserved his best for the last day as he shot a four under par 67 to occupy the fourth plce at 293. After a relatively steady even par 36 at the turn, Angad came back in full blast shooting four birdies on the 10th, 11th,13th and 14th for a superb four under 31 back nine and the day's best card of 67. But it was some consolation for Gagan Verma who finished ahead of Cheema occupying the third place at 293. Gagan had lost to Angad in the All-India Matchplay finals.

Former Sri Lankan Open winner Simarjeet Singh carded 69 and ended in fifth place with a total of 295. Ambala's Manav Das (75) was sixth and Honey Baisoya (75) seventh at 297. Joshi picked up 45 points for the win, while Chikka took 35 and Verma 31. Cheema grabbed 29 and Simarjeet Singh 27. Manav Das in sixth placed earned 24 points.
