Creature comforts for your camping trip

When camping outdoors for the very first time, the minimalist approach of bringing just the bare fundamentals can seem too overwhelming. Particularly for people who will be going on a longer camping trip for the first time, it can be nice to carry along a few bits and pieces that can make the camping site experience a bit more like a home away from home.

There's absolutely nothing cosier and more reassuring than a campfire at night, and sitting around one talking with friends and family could be a enjoyable way to pass the time at nighttime. Provided the camping site permits it, or you're in a safe wild area, you can bring either take with you a bag of fuel, or alternatively, collect kindling from the local area if you're camping in the woodlands.

Whilst camping can be quite a lot of fun, there will be times when you find yourself stuck for something to do, and wishing you had some of the things you keep at your house to entertain yourself. However the good thing about a motorhome is that you'll have plenty of space for storage, so take full advantage of it by taking along board games, cards, and books to keep yourself amused during the evenings. Should you or your traveling companions play an instrument, consider bringing this along too; a guitar is relatively lightweight and can bring hours of pleasure.

With regards to chairs, loungers and tables for relaxing, most campsites should come equipped with these. Nevertheless, you might want to bring a hammock for taking a daytime snooze, and extra pillows and quilts to ensure you're cosy and comfortable through the night. If you're travelling throughout the hotter months, a mosquito net could make life much easier too, as coping with insect bites can ruin an otherwise fun camping trip.

Camping in National Parks

A lot of people love taking day trips to go walking and biking in the National Parks that are located all around the United Kingdom; however many don't appreciate that lots of of these parks come equipped with campsites, and in some cases lodges and barns for visitors, and people who don't can still be used for wild camping. Camping in these areas enables you to enjoy some of the country's most magnificent areas, and the prices of these trips are often very reasonably priced.

The official campsites in National Parks vary dramatically with regard to their facilities, with a few offering very basic sites on which to park a motorhome or pitch tents, and others include every modern convenience you could think of. It can be difficult to establish which site will fit you best. In most cases, individuals with motorhomes will have the majority of the facilities and items that they want inside the vehicle, allowing them to get away with paying for a basic site to park on. However those people who are using tents may need to find a site which offers things like shower facilities and a small shop where they are able to purchase food and other essentials. It's worth doing a bit of research about this, as some National Parks offer activities and entertainment which is included in the price, such as boating and horse riding.

Not all National Parks will permit individuals to camp in the wild. It's legal in parks in Scotland for instance, but might not be allowed in some parks within Britain. It's against the law to camp in the wild in the Peak District, as the campfires which individuals often light can set the nearby peat alight, with disastrous consequences. When camping in the wild in National Parks, it's very important to respect the land and the creatures you could come across there; as a general rule, try to avoid leaving any trace behind and do your best not to impact the landscape - pick up your rubbish, and don't feed any nearby creatures.
