How to Use an External Monitor for a Broken Inspiron 1501 Laptop Monitor
- 1). Plug the monitor's Video Graphics Array cable into the VGA port on the back side of the laptop. Align the pins on the cable head with the port and push inward.
- 2). Tighten the thumb screws on each end of the cable connector to hold it in place. Plug the other end of the cable into the corresponding port on the monitor. Plug the monitor power cable into an electrical outlet if you haven't already done so and turn the monitor on.
- 3). Turn on the laptop and let it start up. Press the "Fn" and "F8" keys on the keyboard at the same time to switch to the external monitor.
