1940s Glamour Hairstyles
- Pin curls are ideal for those with shoulder-length or medium-length hair. You can achieve this look by washing your hair, drying it with a towel and allowing it to air dry. When the hair is still damp, separate it into small sections. The diameter of the sections can be anywhere from 1 to 2 inches, depending on the density desired. Comb and curl each section around either one or two fingers, and secure them to your head with a bobby pin. Repeat until all of the sections are curled and pinned. Tie a scarf over your head and leave overnight. In the morning, remove the pins and part your hair to one side. You can also brush the curls very slightly for a more subtle look.
- For the classic 1940s updo, part your hair to one side and tie it into a low ponytail behind the head. Split the ponytail into two even sections, then tease the sections and wind them over your fingers in a downward motion toward the neck. Secure the hair in place with bobby pins and smooth it down with a brush for a sleeker effect.
- A finger wave is creating using lotion, which makes the hair more pliable and easier to style. When you have applied lotion to the side of the part to be waved, use an index finger and comb to create the position of the first wave. The finger then pulls the hair loose from the comb, while the comb tightens it at the other end -- this friction is what creates the wave. Repeat these steps as for as many waves as you like.
- Rockabilly hairstyles epitomized the glamour of the 1940s. While there are a number of variations of the theme, all share the basic rockabilly haircut. The rockabilly haircut is layered with 3-inch panels around the face and 4-inch panels over the rest of the head. The bangs are also 4-inches long. The hair should be naturally curly or permed or curled.
