Sexuality - What Does Gay Mean?
Every survey of human Sexual Orientation or Sexual Behaviour reveals that there is a huge range of Sexual Expression - the way we choose to behave Sexually is usually as individual and as complicated as the ways we choose to dress or to earn a living.
Human Sexuality rarely falls into neat categories or lends itself to simple labelling.
Human Sexuality is a rich and complex area of the human experience.
Authors, artists, poets, philosophers and composers have worked to explore Sexuality from earliest times, without coming up with any enduring or wholly agreeable answers.
In recent times however, the word Sexuality has come to also have a more limited meaning.
Sexuality is now often defined by whether the gender of the Sexual partners we choose is the same as our own or different.
Some people including myself feel this more restrictive definition can create problems since it attempts to fit a complex, subtle experience into three or four simple categories and words which are mainly associated with the Sexual act.
However it can also offer solutions since it can give people who do not feel they fit into the major assumptions of the heterosexual mainstream a voice, pride and sense of validation that comes from discovering an identity and a shared experience with others.
It is important to realise that whilst exploring our sexuality we may become Anxious, Stressed or even Depressed, this is often as a result of the many prejudices which exist in the world, maybe amongst our friends, family, the media, and in many religious teachings.
For example when people see extreme examples of Gay people in the media, they may presume that all Gay people behave in that way, which of course is not true.
Being Gay is as individual as your personality and you do not have to fit into any stereotypes.
It is important to carefully find someone who you can trust with your thoughts and feelings, remember that not everyone is accepting of difference and there are some people who are against anyone who does not fit into their own ideals of what is normal.
There are many organisations who work in a Gay affirmative way to Help and Support people coming to terms with their Sexuality, Coming Out or Not Coming Out.
Many are listed in the local press and support groups are common.
If you would rather have individual support there are many Counselors and Therapists who personally understand the issues and work in a Gay Affirmative approach.
Talking things through with a stranger is often less scary than with talking to friends and relatives and remember you can get Support and Help Online, so there is no need to go anywhere, simply logon to the internet and in no time you can be getting the Help you need.

Don't let this small part of who you are limit your experiences and ability to live a great and happy life.
