The 1st Annual Scabbies!

19
Welcome to the Scabbies, what will hopefully become an annual celebration (condemnation?) of the worst that horror movies have to offer. Certainly, the true "worst of the worst" go straight to video, but since few people beyond the filmmakers' kin have seen those films, we'll stick to theatrical releases.

Worst Actor

(Tie) Sean Bean, The Hitcher: Appearing perpetually bored and "above" the events of the film, Englishman Bean is about as scary as tea and crumpets.
Gaspard Ulliel, Hannibal Rising: With the perpetually expressionless skill of Hayden Christianson playing Darth Vader and the marble-mouthed delivery of stroke victim, Ulliel turns the legendary Hannibal Lecter into a limp Crispin Glover impersonator.

Worst Actress

Lindsay Lohan, I Know Who Killed Me: I don't know which of the two roles Lohan plays is harder to believe: the impoverished, raised-in-the-streets stripper or the well-to-do, demure college student.

Worst Director

Robert Rodriguez, Planet Terror: Rodriguez directs this movie with the reckless abandon of a child in an ice cream parlor. It's chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate chips, chocolate fudge, a chocolate brownie, chocolate Hershey Kisses, a chocolate bar and maybe a chocolate bunny ear or two -- all leading to a big chocolate headache.

Worst Movie

I Know Who Killed Me: A near-perfect storm of ineptitude, from the acting to the directing to the dialogue, the plot, the action and probably even the crafts service buffet.

Worst Villain

Thomas (Wes Bentley), P2: How is a movie supposed to build any suspense when the villain doesn't want to harm the protagonist? All Thomas wants to do is have dinner...and maybe cuddle.

Worst Sequel

The Hills Have Eyes II: At what point did the inbred mutants develop super powers?

Worst Remake

The Hitcher: A movie that doesn't need remaking + a music video director + a miscast villain + a vapid WB teenie bopper star = poop in a box.

Worst Slasher

Halloween: Granted, there weren't many slashers released theatrically in 2007, but suffice it to say that anything directed by Rob Zombie will likely end up on a "worst of" list somewhere.

Worst Torture Porn

Captivity: The secret genius of this film is that it's a film about torture that actually inflicts torture.

Worst Ghost Story

The Invisible: Sappy melodrama and clichéd teen angst, like Degrassi High with murder.
