The New York area was under the threat of terrorism again. This time however, the plot to blow up the airport and cause more pain than September 11, 2001 was foiled.

What was the terrorist plot?
The plot was to attack and destroy John F. Kennedy International Airport by blowing up a fuel supply that runs through residential areas near the airport, and to kill thousands of people at the airport. The plot was intended to dwarf the effects of September 11, 2001, by causing more damage and death.

Who was involved?
Several men of Caribbean origin, including a U.S. citizen, were part of a suspected Muslim terrorist cell.

How was the plot thwarted?
The plot has been tracked for over a year by the FBI and other federal agencies such as the TSA, as well as law enforcement. Shared intelligence amongst the agencies helped prevent the plot from becoming real.

Any residual issues after foiling the terrorist threat?
JFK and the other New York area airports have been at a heightened state of alert.
