How to Write a Memoir Poem

52
    • 1). Brainstorm your most memorable moments. For example, your list can include your first kiss, your graduation, the day you got married or another moment in your life.

    • 2). Decide on the type of poem you want to write. Some poems rhyme while others do not and some use different repetitive cycles. Using a poetry resource to guide you is a good idea if you're a beginner at writing poetry.

    • 3). Write the first line of your poem, incorporating the theme of your memoir. For example, you can open your poem with a line like:

"My life is a storybook and the pages are blank. My journey is my ink."

This is just an example, but it serves as a sort of opening to your memoir. Your next line can begin the first pivotal moment in your life, and it doesn't have to rhyme.

    • 4). Let your emotion guide your pen as you finish the first draft of your memoir poem. Don't worry too much about perfection because this is your first draft. Include the moments in your life in a sequential manner, as if to tell a story with finely crafted words.

    • 5). Study your first draft and make revisions to it until it is acceptable as a memoir poem. Rewrite it as you feel it is needed.
