How to Sign Up for Food Assistance in Florida
- 1). Gather your personal information. Personal information you need to apply for food assistance in Florida includes your state-issued picture identification, Social Security number and proof of your residency. Proof of residency can include a utility bill.
- 2). Gather your proof of income information. If you receive wages from a job, child support or any other sources of income, you need to provide proof of how much you earn and the frequency. Paycheck stubs, tax returns and W-2 forms can be used to verify income.
- 3). Visit the state of Florida's ACCESS website (see Resources). The website is managed by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
- 4). Click "Apply for Benefits," and review the information regarding applying for food assistance. Click "Continue" and select "Apply for Benefits."
- 5). Select who you are applying for benefits for and check the boxes next to each type of assistance you are seeking. In addition to food assistance, you can apply for cash assistance, Medicaid and Medicaid waivers. Click "Continue."
- 6). Write down your online ACCESS number. The number will be used in the future to log in and check the status of your application. Select a password, and click "Continue."
- 7). Fill out the application for assistance. If possible, do not leave any questions unanswered. Failure to complete the application in its entirety may result in a delay in processing your application. Wait for a determination letter. You will be notified by mail if additional information is needed or if your application for assistance was denied or approved. If your application is approved, you should receive an EBT card in the mail.
