How to Get Out of Prison Early in Florida
- 1). Contact a lawyer to discuss available options. In Florida, early release credits were discontinued in 1994 due to reduction in prison admissions and a massive and accelerated prison building program. (For more information on contacting a lawyer, see "Lawyer" in Resources.)
- 2). Review inmate convictions and records to determine if he is eligible for parole. In Florida, parole was eliminated in 1983, except for capital crimes. A deterministic "Sentencing Guidelines" structure, administered by the Supreme Court, was implemented for all felony convictions. Reduced sentences and house arrests were also implemented.
