Choosing a great name on Twitter

8
Choosing a name on Twitter is easy and great fun, when I choose mine it felt like a great part of my adventure in becoming a Twitter member.

It is very important that you choose a Twitter name that is of some value to you. It should be thoroughly thought out prior to creating it and you should make sure it is a quality name. I have seen some terrible Twitter names in the ninety days that I have been a member and some really funny ones too that have stayed in my memory.

There is no such thing as the perfect Twitter name as we are all different and have completely different personalities that must be reflected in what we do on Twitter. For me it was important to use my business name as even though I planned to use Twitter for friendship business was a major part of my social networking plans.

I disagree with using your business name with a dash in the middle as people will find it a lot easier to forget such as name. Where as if you create one as a long username people will remember it enough to type it in manually other than searching for it on a regular basis like many people are forced to do.

I also can't believe how many usernames I have come across with swear words in them and this to me brings down the lovely community that has been created through Twitter. I will never follow people with a name like this as I believe it looks bad on me and if I did follow such a person with a Twitter username like this what on earth will they actually end up posting. It scares me just to think about it if I'm honest.

Another type of username never to go for is those that involve a lot of different letters that don't really make much sense. These are often associated with spammers so many won't follow you back just on the grounds that you may well be a regular spammer and why bother following you as the likelihood is that they will be suspended by the time you have followed them.

If I wasn't using Twitter for business I would either use my name or a nickname so that people can find me easily. Using something that you're a fan of is also a great way to build a huge following. Like "Iloveshawshank" if you're a big fan of the film The Shawshank Redemption.

On a positive note you can always change your username at any point just go into your Twitter account click on settings and change the name. All I suggest is that you post an update telling people otherwise they may not know it is you and could end up unfollowing you which you certainly don't want.

In my opinion choosing a great Twitter name is very important so take five minutes to choose one instead of just jumping in the deep end.
