How to Change a Pulley on a Motor

14
    • 1). Locate the Allen screw that holds the pulley in place. Use an Allen wrench to loosen it. Try to pull the pulley off at this point. If the pulley will not come off or is rusted, spray the pulley and shaft with WD-40 and let it sit for about an hour.

    • 2). Place the bottom tip of the pulley puller bolt on the tip of the motor shaft at the center of the pulley. Unscrew the pulley puller bolt until the claws of the puller can grab the edges of the pulley. Begin tightening the pulley puller bolt. The pulley bolt will push on the motor shaft and at the same time pull on the pulley with its claws.

    • 3). Continue tightening the pulley puller bolt until the pulley comes off. If there is an old metal key on the motor shaft, it will have to be replaced.

    • 4). Place the new key in the groove on the motor shaft. Lubricate the motor shaft and push the new pulley into position on the motor shaft. Make sure the new pulley is in alignment with the second pulley it will drive. Tighten the new Allen screw and installation is complete.
