Fatal Safety Errors in Golden Retriever Ownership

11
Once he's off and running, he'll be a fuzzy blur of canine non-stop energy.
Indeed you may find it hard to keep up with him.
It's a wise parent, though, who prepares his home ahead of time.
Besides being full of energy, Golden Retriever puppies are overflowing with curiosity.
They can cause more destruction (unintentional, I assure you!) than a tornado sailing through the Midwest.
Take heart! You can take precautions and make preparations even before your new friend's arrival.
Here are four quick things you can do right now to make your house "puppy safe.
" 1) Move electrical wires.
This is a must.
Place the wires so your pup can't even get to them.
It goes without saying that your pup may not only injure herself, but may also die from biting into electric cords.
2) Move all sharp objects out of her reach.
Do you have any broken glass, nails or even staples resting on the floor or on tables within your puppy's reach? Either throw these items away or place them out of his reach.
3) Move all toxic items out of reach.
What's a toxic item? Anything that would be toxic to you is toxic to him.
This includes automobile radiator coolant, paint, cleaners, disinfectants, and insecticides.
If you've ever "baby proofed" a home, you know exactly what I mean.
A good rule of thumb, in fact, is that if you won't let a baby near it, don't let your Golden near it! 4) Do a "walk through.
" Before you actually bring your new bundle of joy home, do what we've come to call in our house a "walk through.
" In some ways, it's more like a crawl through.
We literally go through the house on our hands and knees looking for possible hazards from a "pup's eye view.
