How to Catch Wild Goats

12
    • 1). Find a goat watering hole. These animals live in arid, rocky places where there isn't a lot of water, so they tend to drink in the same places each day.

    • 2). Construct a goat-proof fence around the watering hole. Goats are very agile animals that can squeeze through narrow opening, scale walls and even climb trees. Swampy Acres suggests building a goat-proof fence that is at least 5 feet high and has a treated 4-by-4 post every 10 feet.

    • 3). Leave an opening 3 or 4 feet wide in the fence. This is a space to allow the goats to enter the now fenced-in watering hole.

    • 4). Construct a gate or ramp that allows the goats to enter, but not to leave. Think of the Texas gates that keep cows in and apply the same principle of having it slant one way, but leaving a gap that the hoof will slide through when the goats try to leave. Make it about 10 feet long, to make sure the goats can't jump over it.

    • 5). Check the goat-proof fence regularly. Once you have the goats in an enclosed area, it is easy to catch them.

    • 6). Get a rope and tie it around the goat's neck in a slipknot. Like with a dog collar, it means the goat will pull until she can't breathe and then step back.
