How to Download Video Footage
- 1). Watch your video and take note of which footage you want to download/upload.
- 2). Connect your camera to your laptop or computer using the FireWire cable that comes with it. One end of the cable should connect to the camera, while the other should connect to your computer. The camera instruction manual should show you how to do this.
- 3). Transfer the video files from your camera to your computer. This can be done either through software that already comes with your camera or manually. To transfer files manually, click on My Computer (for PC users) or Finder (for Mac users), double-click on the camera icon and select the video files you want to transfer. They will usually have filenames ending in .mov, .avi, or .wmv. Copy these files onto a new folder on your desktop.
- 4). To put all these different video files together to make one movie, use editing software such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie (for Macs). If you are using a Flip camera, it has its own built-in software that can help you piece your clips together.
- 5). Export your movie to your desktop folder. Make sure it is the correct file type and save it accordingly.
- 6). Upload your video file online (optional). You can do this through video-sharing websites such as YouTube.com and Vimeo.com. These sites will also give you the HTML code that will allow you to embed your video in your personal website.
