How to Install a Dirt Bike Tire

15
    • 1). Wipe down the surface of the rim with a clean rag and an acetone solvent to ensure that the rim is in optimal condition for the mounting process. Allow the rim to dry completely before continuing.

    • 2). Inflate the tire slowly until the base tape underneath the outer portion of the tire is exposed. Hold the tire in a "figure 8" position, squeezing lightly at the pinch point in the middle, then apply a single coat of glue to the base tape. Use your acid brush to spread the glue out so it reaches all portions of the rubber. Work carefully to avoid getting glue on the side of the tire.

    • 3). Apply the glue to the edge of the rim in small beads. Once again, use your acid brush to spread the glue out so all areas of the rim are covered evenly. Be sure that the outer edges of the rim are given the most glue as they provide most of the holding power to the wheel.

    • 4). Place the wheel vertically into the truing stand and place the valve in the valve hole. Pull outward on the tire and hold the tire approximately 12 inches from either side of the valve. Work the tire onto the rim one section at a time, continuing until the entire tire has been applied to the rim. Try to work quickly as you may only have a few minutes before the glue dries.

    • 5). Align the tire onto the rim by making sure the center of the tire is even with the center of the rim. Examine the entire tire closely to make sure the wheel is locked into place from all angles. Use your floor pump to continue inflating the tire until you have reached your desired pressure.
