    Time in Service

    • A Marine Corps captain's salary varies based on her time in service. A captain with less than two years in service receives a monthly salary of $3,711.90 as of the 2011 fiscal year, according to the "Marine Corps Times." A captain with more than three years in service received monthly wages of $4,542. A captain with more than 10 years in service earned $5,617.80 per month.

    Housing

    • The U.S. Marine Corps provides free on-base housing for all of its service members. Captains may be authorized to reside off-base, but they don't have to. Marine Corps captains who are authorized to reside off-base are entitled to a basic allowance for housing in addition to their basic pay. The housing allowance varies based on the captain's duty station. A captain stationed in Monterey, Calif., received a housing allowance of $2,106 per month during the 2011 fiscal year, according to the "Marine Corps Times." A captain who was stationed in Panama City, Fla., received $1,218 per month for housing.

    Subsistence

    • The U.S. Marine Corps provides a basic allowance for subsistence to all of its service members, both officers and enlisted, in addition to their basic pay. The rate for all officers, including captains is the same. The amount of the monthly basic allowance for subsistence is linked to the U.S. Department of Agriculture food-cost index. The rate for the 2011 fiscal year was $223.84 per month.

    Benefits

    • A captain in the U.S. Marine Corps receives a number of benefits in addition to basic pay and allowances for housing and subsistence. Marine Corps captains receive 30 days of paid leave each year. They receive comprehensive medical and dental care and can purchase low-cost life insurance. They may shop at on-base commissaries and department stores that are free from federal and local sales taxes. The Marine Corps provides tuition assistance and other allowances for captains who pursue an advanced degree. Officers in the Marine Corps may retire after 20 years of service.
