There is definitely a demand for this type of business.
If you have a passion for taking care of young children then a daycare business may be right for you.
With that said, plunging into this type of business without doing the proper research can lead you into a situation with catastrophic proportions.
Here are the steps to take: 1- Become licensed: You must have a license in order to teach young children.
You will first need to have a high school education or GED (general education graduate).
Then you will have to get a degree or certificate endorsed by a certified college or university.
Call a college in your area for more info on getting licensed.
Once you are licensed, you will need to do a criminal background check and also take a course in CPR.
2- Experience Needed: Now it's time to get some experience under your belt if you do not yet have any.
Even though you may be entering this field as an entrepreneur, it is always best to first get some hands on experience on the job.
After you get licensed, get a job in an actual daycare to really get a good understanding and feel of this industry.
This will assist in your overall success.
In the mean time, if you do not yet have a license, get a temporary or even multiple baby sitting jobs.
3- Start Up Costs: State and provincial laws are very strict especially anything to do with the care of small children.
Make a call to your local government licensing office and find out the exact requirements that you will need for facilities, staff, equipment and supplies.
Regulations will vary from state to state so it can be hard to determine the exact start up costs that may be imposed on you in your locality.
In some areas it can cost you up to $500,000 to get up and running.
4- Limits: In some state and provinces, there are limits as to how many children a facility can be licensed for.
Many regions have a limit of no more than 70 children per facility since there has to be sufficient room for each child inside and outside the business.
One licensed teacher will be required for every 20 children and even less than that in some areas.
5- Business Plan: In order to become successful you will need to draw up a professional business plan.
If you are planning on borrowing funds from a financial institution then a lawyer approved business plan will be mandatory.

If you are seriously considering this type of business, then having a passion or love for children should be a prerequisite.
Don't be in this just for the money as your success greatly will depend on your passion or desire.
