Every violin teacher has a different way of teaching his student how to play violin.
Here are some basic points to get you started, regardless of how you are taught later.
1st Find a quiet place to practice You cannot learn to play violin or any other instrument if you can't properly concentrate.
You need a quit room with a chair and a music stand, void of any outside noise or distraction.
2nd Tune your violin Place your violin in your lap and tune it either by ear, piano or by using a pitch pipe.
The open strings on the violin are G-D-A-E.
Learn to listen to the differences in these pitches.
3rd Hold your violin in playing position Hold your violin in your left hand with the violin under your chin.
Your wrist should be bent slightly forward and your.
Let the violin rest on your left hand.
Do not grip it.
4th Grab your bow Hold the bow in your right hand.
Use a gentle grip with your thumb on the inside of the bow and your index, middle, and ring fingers should be on the outside of the bow.
5th Play the G string Put your index finger on the G string just under the bolt and play that string slowly with your bow.
Keep your index finger down as the bow moves left.
Pick your finger up as the bow moves back in.
6th repeat with each string The reason you are doing this is to loosen your fingers and work on your left and right hand coordination.
Once you are warmed up, you can begin playing scales.
These are the basics - the very basics.
