Why I Love Working With Business People and What They Taught Me!
When I was about 13 my neighbor had a trash removal business.
His wife did not want to do the bookkeeping for the business.
So they hired me to write out the bills (on postcards) and apply the payments when they came in.
In fairness, the wife did enjoy spending the money! Just those simple tasks and I was hooked! I had a natural flair for numbers and I was drawn to business.
Off to business school for me.
When the opportunity arose for me to strike out on my own I took it.
That was ten years ago; I got involved in the QuickBooks world and have been learning and growing ever since.
Here's why I love working with business people: • Business people have taught me a lot about life and about people.
I have made mistakes along the way.
In my eagerness to be helpful, I have felt sorry for a lot of them.
However, feeling sorry for people (no matter who they are) is not helpful to them or me.
They do need help in their daily activities: better to show them the tools they need to get them on their way.
Putting tools such as QuickBooks in their hands has been a godsend to many.
• Tried and true business principles have stood the test of time; for example: having enough capital, having a plan (financial, marketing, etc.
) and setting goals, monitoring spending, keeping up to date with the accounting, wise borrowing practices.
With QuickBooks you have the ability to build your business' financial history and can monitor your progress quite easily.
• Majority of small businesses would like to do everything themselves.
Not only can they not do everything themselves neither can I.
Great with the consulting and accounting: no so great with sales and marketing.
Hiring coaches and working with mentors changed my business.
I keep up with all the latest social media in my business and can recommend to my clients what might work for them.
At network events, I keep my eyes and ears open for potential help for my clients and me.
They love that I am thinking about their businesses.
• In general, business people are amazing.
As an accountant, I can be somewhat of an introvert.
Watching them being creative, engaging and outgoing in their businesses has given me tools and ideas about how I act with people in my business and personal life.
