How to Use USB to Serial Converters in Windows
- 1). Plug the flat end of the USB to Serial adapter cable into an empty USB port on your computer.
- 2). Insert the driver installation disc for the adapter into the CD/DVD drive when prompted to do so after Windows detects the new device. In some cases, Windows will automatically configure the USB to Serial device for use.
- 3). Click "Install" or "Run" when the driver installation utility appears on the screen. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the driver. Reboot your computer if prompted to do so. Remove the driver installation disc from the CD/DVD drive and store in a safe place.
- 4). Connect your serial device to the new adapter. Power-on the device, then install device drivers for the device from the setup or installation disc. Use the device as you normally would on an older computer with a DB9 serial port.
