Step-by-step instructions:
This look works best with shoulder-length or long hair that is dry.
Before you start:
- If you can, it's best to use body building shampoo and conditioner before trying this hair-do and blow your hair to create as much body as possible.
- Make sure you have a comb, lots of bobby pins (around 20), a big hair-clip and hairspray to hand.
- If you want even MORE volume to your hair before your start, you could put hot rollers in, but this is not one of the set steps to getting the Beehive and is not necessarily needed.
- Using clip-in hair extensions is a great idea for adding even more volume to the Beehive as it will make your hair thicker and you will have more hair to work with.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Spray your hair lightly with hair spray. This will give you control when you're styling it.
- Divide your hair in two sections with a horizontal parting from ear to ear across the top of your head.
- Brush the front section of hair forward and clip your hair in place to stop it moving and getting in the way.
- If you have fine hair and you have clip-in hair extensions now is the time to add them to the back section of your hair, we recommend using human hair extensions over synthetic hair extensions as these will look the most natural and blend with your own hair.
- If you have very fine and shiny hair you will now need to back comb the back section of your hair to help create more body and volume. Back combing also makes the hair coarser and therefore able to hold the hair style. Even if your hair is not fine we would recommend back combing to help achieve maximum volume to the Beehive. To do this comb or brush the hair from tip to root, it is easier to do small sections at a time.
- Then, pull the back section of your hair into a high, tight twist. This can be done by using one hand to hold the hair tight in a ponytail at the top/back of your head and then using the other hand to twist the hair. You will be able to mould the back combed hair into place in the ponytail.
- Pull the ends of the twist to the crown of your head. Slide large bobby pins down through the fold of the twist, firmly clipping it to the back of your head.
- Spray the twist with hairspray.
- Unclip the hair at the front of the head (the section in front of the part, ie. nearest the forehead and start to back comb to achieve maximum volume.
- Again, maintain the volume and rougher hair by using lots of hairspray.
- Next, use your hands to shape and mould the hair into a round puff or ball-type shape on the top of your head which will meet the top of the twist of the back section of your hair.
- Tuck the ends of the hair into the twist you made earlier and secure in place with lots of bobby pins.
- Smooth your hair from any flyaways and use more hairspray to ensure the hairstyle lasts.
- And now you are ready to party.
