How to Help a Fussy Baby Sleep Through the Night
- 1). Give the baby a pacifier after placing him in the crib. Pacifiers mimic the sucking motion that babies use when eating, and this will help to calm and soothe his sucking reflex.
- 2). Make sure the baby has been fed and has a full stomach before placing him in the crib. Ideally, a baby should be fed about an hour before putting him to sleep.
- 3). Placing a blanket in the crib that smells like the mother also helps to make a baby feel comfortable and relaxed. Try to put the same blanket in with the child each time he is placed in the crib.
- 4). A small fan placed near the child's crib will also help to minimize excessive noise and keep him blissfully unaware of any outside distractions.
- 5). A sound machine placed within listening distance of the crib, especially one that contains sounds similar to a mother's heartbeat, will help to remind a baby of his time inside the womb.
