Red Berry Decorating
- Red berries can be arranged with other decor items to make a centerpiece. For a winter theme, cut fresh pine boughs and arrange them on a wood platter. Intersperse the boughs with red berries. Tie them in place with white ribbons. You can also make a centerpiece by filling a bowl with pine cones and mixing in red berries intermittently. These both have the extra benefit of adding a nice, fresh smell to the table.
- You can use red berries to add color to mantlepieces and railings. Use sprigs of berries and tie them into place with ribbon. Create a ribbon garland by sewing springs of berries onto a 4-inch-thick ribbon. Wind this around stairway railings. For a holiday effect, use a green velvet ribbon. For a contrast, use a white ribbon. Berries can also be placed in bowls on the mantle or arranged in dried sprays in vases.
- Swags over the doors and in hallways add much-needed color to these areas. You can make your own swag with branches of berries tied together. Or cut fresh pine boughs and make your own festive swag. Arrange the branches and tie them together. Use fishing line for an invisible hold. Place the berries between the boughs and tie them into place. Hang the swag inside or even outside, above your entry door.
- Berries can be arranged around other decor items. For example, if you have a wooden candlestick, place a sprig of berries on both sides of it. Berries can also be placed at random spots around your home to give cheery little pops of color. Stick a sprig behind a picture frame or a mirror in a hallway. Lay branches of berries on windowsills to add even more color to an area.
