If you are planning a trip to Los Angeles and you are a talk show fan, here’s a quick list of the most popular shows that film in that city and information about each. Headed to New York and a talk show fan? There's plenty to do there, too.

2. Jimmy Kimmel Live

Many consider Jimmy Kimmel an acquired taste, but since his debut in 2003, he has served ABC well as its entry in the late night talk show game. Kimmel’s brand of humor is best served in college frat houses, so be prepared if you tune in. The cast of wacky characters, such as “Uncle Frank” Potenza, “Cousin Sal” Iacono and Jake Byrd, the over enthusiastic nom de plume of comedic actor Anthony Barbieri, give this show its zing, as does the band, one of the most eclectic around. Kimmel tapes weekdays at 7 p.m. PT from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.

Jimmy tapes later than most shows - at 7:45 p.m. - in order to be as topical as possible. Ticket InfoMore »

3. The Ellen DeGeneres Show

It is hard to put a finger on why so many relate to Ellen. Her offbeat demeanor and dancing feet attract many, but perhaps it is the sometimes downright silly humor and skits that make the show so much fun to watch. Maybe it's also that she comes across as a "real person." If Ellen is your cup of tea – and I can’t believe that it isn’t – you can check her out weekdays, originating from Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif.

Dates and taping times are subject to change, so check your ticket info when it arrives. Ticket InfoMore »

4. Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

There’s a lot to love about Craig Ferguson, and of all the shows out west that those of us at About Talk Shows would love to see, it’s the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. (Okay, well, Conan, too.) Ferguson is known for his monologues, delivered as though your best drinkin’ buddy was telling you a good story and detailing touching moments, goofy humor, razor-sharp wit and pure honesty. Yes, we love Craig. See him at CBS Television City in Los Angeles.

5. Dr. Phil

Need some advice? Dr. Phil is dishing it up. See the good doctor walk someone through their own, personal mental mine field – and discover how they turn out on the other side. Dr. Phil tapes at Paramount Studios in L.A.

Dr. Phil tapes twice a day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Those going to the morning show should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. Those coming to the second show should get there no later than 9:30 a.m. The show's season is from August through early December, and then from January through May.More »

6. Last Call with Carson Daly

Though Last Call has taken to getting out of the studio and doing on-location shoots more often than not, you can still get tickets and see Daly welcome up-and-coming bands and celebrities. Catch the show at NBC Studios in Los Angeles.

The show tapes five days a week at 5:30 p.m. Ticket InfoMore »

7. Chelsea Lately

Comedienne turned talk show host Chelsea Handler’s self-deprecating style plays pitch perfect with the late night format. And her show is unique, in that it combines the roundtable format of a show like Politically Incorrect and the standard across-the-desk celebrity interview. Chelsea tapes in L.A.More »
