How to Install a Vessel Sink in the Bathroom
- 1). Measure the countertop area with a tape measure and create a template or jig from a sheet of cardboard according to these measurements.
- 2). Arrange the location of the sink faucets in relation to the vessel sink. Decide where the sink will mount and how. Measure the diameter of the sink with a tape measure, and make sure there is plenty of room for the faucet given the vessel sink's diameter. Adjust the faucet location on the template as needed.
- 3). Cut out the holes for the faucet and sink in the template, using scissors. Place the template on the counter. Transfer the marks to the counter by tracing around the cut out holes with a pencil. Cut out the mounting holes by following your marks. Use a hole saw or jig saw to make the cuts. Remove the cut outs and clean the countertop with a cloth to remove sawdust.
- 4). Install the vessel sink in the sink mounting hole. Caulk around the edge of the sink with silicone sink caulking. If the vessel sink is glass, install a connecting ring around the hole first. Then place the vessel sink in the counter.
- 5). Install the drain in the vessel sink drain hole by tightening the top half of the drain to the bottom half with a drain wrench.
- 6). Connect the drain line to the vessel sink drain. Slide the drain pipe up into the drain hole, slide a compression gasket over the drain hole. Compress the gasket with a hammer and block to secure the connection.
- 7). Insert the faucet into the cut out holes. Apply plumber's putty around the base of the faucet. Tighten the faucet mounting nuts underneath the sink with a wrench to secure the faucet in place. Connect the supply hoses to the base of the faucet. Turn on the water and test the faucets.
