What to Wear for a Bank Teller Interview
- Bank teller dress codes have moved toward business casual, according to the American Banking Association Banking Journal. This change from conservative business attire allows customers to feel more comfortable with tellers. But while the company's dress code will dictate your workday attire, dressing for an interview is a different situation. The Virginia Tech Career Center recommends dressing up for an interview "unless you are specifically told otherwise by the employer." You aren't expected to wear "the same clothing as a corporate CEO," but a sensible suit is an important component of any professional wardrobe. Banking is a relatively conservative industry, so you are unlikely to win points by showcasing your creative fashion sense.
- The VTCC recommends a "two-piece matched suit." Choose conservative colors that aren't likely to go out of style, so that you can use the suit for years. Wear dark socks that don't show skin when you sit down and a belt that matches your dark leather shoes. Wear a conservative silk tie that matches the color of your suit--not the Bugs Bunny tie your friend gave you.
- A two-piece suit or skirt in a conservative color are the best options for women job seekers, according to the UVCC. Make sure the skirt is long enough--it should completely cover your thighs when you are seated. Wear a tailored blouse under your suit jacket and closed-toe pumps. Pantyhose should be sheer or in neutral colors complementing your suit. Accessories and makeup should also be conservative and complement your suit.
